Japanese flute "Shakuhachi" has various styles within the context of history. Actually, there are Tozan-ryu, Kokin-ryu, Ueda-ryu, Chikuho-ryu,,,, Our shop has 2 kinds style, Tozan-ryu and Kinko-ryu. They are the most popular in Japan Now.

What is Kinko-ryu?

In the Edo period, this style was founded and spread by "Kinko Kurosawa"(1710-1771)!
komuso(trainee Zen monks in the Edo period) took lead in the field of Japanese flute
"Shakuhachi", and religious atmosphere was much strong.
So, Kinko-ryu give off a religious and special mystique.

What is Tozan-ryu.

In the Meiji period, this style was founded and spread by "Tozan Nakao"（1876～1956）!.
When he started Tozan-ryu, Japanese flute "Shakuhachi" was dominated by komuso(trainee Zen monks in the Edo period).
So, Shakuhachi music were almost religious.
But, Tozan gets beyond regular classical Japanese flute "Shakuhachi" and created new style.
And, he was a pioneer. He created new field from solo to ensemble.So, you can feel the revolution of his work with this instrument!

We are providing 3 types to match the needs of customers.

1.Wood type.

This is made from wood what is called "Kaede". And, It's the most reasonable in our shop.
The material is not bamboo , but of course this SHAKUHACH is tuned by craftsman very well.
Wood atomsphere is also very good. So, it's enough for biginners.
If you want to start it and are caring prices, we will recommend wood style.

2.Middle-class Bamboo type.

This is the middle class in our Japanese flute "Shakuhachi".
The material is bamboo , Of course this is tuned by craftsman completely.
Their tone color, finishing and atmosphere are entirely satisfactory.
If you want to feel the greatness of bamboo, we will recommned that.

3.High-class Bamboo type.

This is the highest class in our Japanese flute "Shakuhachi" .
About the material, high-class bamboo is used, and the finishing is sophisticated, gorgeous and outstanding.
Of course, the tone coloration is great. It bring out deep resonant tone.
Actually, it's the most popular among costumers.
You can enjoy not only to play it, but also to own it as a collection of valuable antique.
